Council on Aging for Henderson County

The Council on Aging for Henderson County provides and coordinates services to keep older adults living independently. Since 1969, they have been providing a wealth of services to folks over age 60, their families and caregivers. While some seniors may never require one of the programs, many will come to rely on their help at some point in their lives.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program - SHIIP

SHIIP is a consumer information division of the NC Department of Insurance that assists people with Medicare, Medicare Part D (prescription drug assistance), Medicare advantage, and long-term care insurance questions. There mission is to provide free unbiased and factual health insurance information.

Disability Partners

Disability Partners is a private, non-profit, community-based organization. Regardless of income, they provide independent living services, community education, advocacy and more. As Centers for Independent Living, they have resources for people with all types of disabilities.

Western Highlands

Western Highlands' mission is to make sure that services are provided to persons living with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse in Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Transylvania, Yancey, Rutherford, Polk and Mitchell counties. They aim to help individuals gain access to services that are available, family-centered, and that honor and respect the rights of every person seeking services. They do not provide direct services, but manage a network of providers to whom they can refer individuals who need help, making every effort to provide choice to the person in need.

Western Highlands Network will monitor the services that are provided to consumers to ensure quality and consumer satisfaction.

Aging Projects

Aging Projects, Inc. is a new online directory designed specifically to help the senior population of Henderson County and their caregivers. It lists most commonly needed services and products from providers whose services are available in Henderson County. With funding from the community Foundation and at no cost to you, the site walks you through simple questions to determine your needs based on your own situation.
